Summary of changes
EC Sales List
From the 1 January 2010, zero rated sales of services to other businesses in the
EU must be reported to HMRC. This has always been the case for goods. Sales of
services with a transaction date on or after 1 January 2010 are now
automatically included in the Display>EC Sales List report. This report
can be used to manually complete the ECSL form. There is also an option to
generate a CSV or XML file containing the data. This file can then be uploaded
via HMRC's web site. The format of these files has changed slightly, so you
should download this update even if you only sell goods to the EU.
If you use VT Transaction+ to generate sales invoices (SIN button), there has been for some time an option in the Type of sale (for VAT purposes) list to specify Zero rated service to the EU.
If you use VT Transaction+ to merely enter the amounts of sales invoices produced by another system (SIN button), the Zero rated service to the EU option is only available if you install this update. It is therefore important that you install this update before you enter such transactions, and not wait until you have to generate an EC Sales List.
VAT rate
After installing this update, the VAT rate in any new company you create will be
initially set to 17.5%. If you have transactions to enter at 15%, you will need
to change the VAT rate back to 15% temporarily. Existing companies are not
affected. For advice on changing the VAT rate, see Changing
the standard rate of VAT.
Highlight colour
The yellow background used to indicate that an entry has been drilled down to
has been made stronger. In Windows Vista the old colour was not always visible.
Networks and saving data
VT Transaction+ and VT Cash Book automatically save changes to a company's data
file as soon as they are made. They also instruct Windows to immediately write
any changes to disk (and not save them in temporary memory). This is just in
case your computer suddenly shuts down. However, this slows down performance and
occasionally causes problems on networks. There is now an option to prevent
this:
Data entry screens
A bug that caused a crash if you used a certain combination of key strokes in
the data entry screens has been fixed.
