VT Final Accounts
VT Final Accounts requires Microsoft Excel 2002 for the Windows desktop or later.

If you have Excel 2010 or Excel 2013, you can install 32 bit or 64 bit versions (32 bit is usually the default install option and is the version recommended by Microsoft). VT Final Accounts only runs in 32 bit Excel. The VT set up program will give you a warning message if you do not have a suitable version of Excel installed and will not proceed.

If you do have the 64 bit version of Excel installed, you need to uninstall Microsoft Office and install the 32 bit version. Your license entitles you to both versions. More info on 32 bit versus 64 bit Excel...

THE THREE EXCELS
There are in effect three similar applications all called Excel, only one of which is currently widely used:

EXCEL 2010 AND EXCEL 2013 CLICK TO RUN
Desktop Excel is also available in a Click to run version which is installed virtually (ie you cannot find Excel.exe in the C:\Program files folder or anywhere else on your hard disk). VT Final Accounts is not compatible with this installation of Excel. In VT's experience, very few users have a Click to run installation. The VT set up program will not proceed if you have a Click to run installation (because it cannot find Excel.exe)

Choose the the File>Help command in Excel 2010 to see if you have a Click to run installation. In the About Microsoft Excel section, the words Click to run will be shown.

If you have the Click to run version installed, you need to uninstall Microsoft Office and install the normal version. Your license entitles you to both versions.

VT Transaction+, VT Cash Book and VT Filer
These applications require Microsoft Windows 2000 or later (including Windows 8). They run in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows.

The old VT Transaction
Support is no longer provided for the old VT Transaction. The old VT Transaction is a 16 bit program originally written for Windows 3.1 in the early 1990's. 16 bit programs do not run on 64 bit versions of Windows. VT Transaction has not been tested in 32 bit Windows 7. It does run in 32 bit Windows Vista, but there are some known problems.

32 bit and 64 bit explained
32 bit and 64 bit refers to the number of binary (eg 0 or 1) digits used to store a simple number in a computer chip. Before Windows 7, most PC's were 32 bit. You can run 32 bit programs on 64 bit PC's, but not vice versa.

Apple Mac
None of VT's applications run directly on the Apple Mac operating system. They are for Windows only. It is not economic for VT to develop versions for the Mac.

Windows RT
None of VT's applications run in Windows RT. However, they do run on tablets that support the full version of Windows such as Microsoft Surface Pro.
