Run time error 91 message received when starting Excel

This message occurs if you have an add-in installed by Adobe Acrobat call pdfwriter.xla.

You can safely click the End option in the error message and continue normally.

The code in pdfwriter.xla has not been hidden by Adobe. A line of this code is upset by the presence of the VT Final Accounts menus. Comments in the code suggest that it has been written by someone inexperienced in writing Visual Basic code! To make matter worse, the add-in is installed in the XLStart folder and not the Library folder of Excel so you cannot turn the add-in off by unticking it in the Add-Ins dialog.

There are three alternative workarounds available to prevent this message:

• Delete the file pdfwriter.xla
• Move pdfwriter.xla from your XLStart folder to your Library folder (both are sub folders of Excel - eg for Excel 2003 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11)
• Untick VT Final Accounts in the Add-Ins dialog (Tools menu of Excel). VT Final accounts will not then start until you click on a button on the VT Final Accounts toolbar. Because the VT menus are not present when pdfwriter.xla starts no error occurs
