Support topics - VT Accounts

Changes made in the July 2008 edition

VT FINAL ACCOUNTS
Sole traders
The layout of the profit and loss account has been altered to match the changed layout in the self-employment pages of the personal tax return. Partnerships are unaffected. For more details, see
2007/2008 tax return - self employment pages.

Text boxes
Since Excel 95 days, the VT templates have used text boxes for paragraphs of text. The superior merge cells across columns feature was not available in Excel 95. As Excel 95 is no longer supported, the templates have been re-written without the use of text boxes. This has the following advantages:

Tips:

Audit and accountants reports
The text in these reports is now fully automatic.

Data cells
All cells in the templates that may contain data or text entered by the user have been given special names (all beginning with x). This means that in future versions you will be able to simply transfer data from one edition of a workbook to another, or from a small company to a large or vice versa. It also enables in the future the possibility of electronically filing accounts.

Please note that all the above changes only apply to workbooks created with the July 2008 edition, and not to workbook created in earlier versions.

VT TRANSACTION+
The CD contains the completed version of the software. The help topics are outstanding, but the user guide is now available. The layout of the tax return profit and loss account/balance sheet for sole traders has been changed to match the new tax return. Trial balances can be imported from Sage and most other accounts packages using the journal import feature.

VT TRANSACTION
This product is no longer being updated as it is superseded by VT Transaction+. In particular, the layout of the tax return profit and loss account/balance sheet has not been changed. Future CD’s will still include VT Transaction, but it will not be installed by default.
