Problems restoring from a floppy disk
Background
It is much better to use a CD or a USB memory stick to make backups. Floppy disks have a very low capacity and are prone to mechanical failure. Many laptops no longer have floppy drives and on some desktops it is an optional extra. See Backing up to/Restoring from a CD.
Specific problems
I/O error message received backing up or restoring. This indicates that the floppy disk is mechanically damaged. Data is irretrievably lost.
File not in VT format message received after restoring a file. This indicates that the floppy disk got corrupted at some point. Data is irretrievably lost.
Disk not from same backup message on inserting disk 2 or subsequent disk. This indicates that the floppy disk got corrupted at some point. Data is irretrievably lost.
When you begin the Restore From Diskette operation, any existing file with the same name is overwritten. If the restore process then fails for some of the reasons listed above the original file will be lost too.
Disk does not contain file in backup format message received. The disk may contain a file with the normal .tra extension. This type of file can be copied back to your hard disk using My Computer. See Backing up to/Restoring from a CD.
