Information within the accounts does not match that on the CT600 message received from HMRC when submitting a tax return
The only item of data that appears on both the CT600 and the accounts that is also checked by HMRC's computers is the company registration number, so this message always means that the number shown in the accounts is different to the CT600. VT have made a request to HMRC that they make the error message clearer.
A common mistake is to omit a leading zero from the registration number in the accounts. In Excel, a leading zero will not be shown unless the number formatting for the cell is set to Text in the Format>Cells>Number dialog.
However, the HMRC filing product does not allow you to enter leading zeros and hence in this case they should be omitted from VT! If VT does not allow you to omit the leading zeros, please download the latest version.
This message can also be caused by including a leading or trailing space in the company registration number. Since the September 2011 of VT Final Accounts, leading and trailing spaces are automatically removed when you generate an iXBRL file.
